日本ビクターの製品の中では比較的普及型の5球受信機。ビクターがラジオの生産に参入して、完全に国産化した初期のモデル。ダイヤルには提携していたRCAのマークとビクターのマークが並んでいる。高級受信機が認定された最初のものである。高級受信機は認定の対象ではなかったために、発売後1年たってから認定を受けている。シャーシが深く、整備性は悪いが良質の部品で堅牢に作られている、

キャビネット内部の表示は日本製を示すJR-101となっている。銘板の表示は、JR-101となっているものと、R-101となっているものの両方がある。

R-101型は、認定番号を変えずに1938年末には横型のキャビネットにモデルチェンジされ、5R-10型となった。
R-101型は、5R-10が発売されてからもしばらく併売された。

本機のシリアルNo.は15684だが、状態が悪かったため、No.4661と中身を入換えた。

　This was high-class 5 tubes TRF set of Victor Talking Machines Co., of Japan.
And this was first registered model of high class set.
The purpose of approval system was prevailing of high quality and low price radio.
Broadcast station did not intended high-class set for approval system.
However, approval was needed for the government furnishing.
The local government office needed high sensitivity radio to receive central station.
High-class set added to an object of approval system.

Model R-101 was approved 1 year after from first sale.
Victor Talking Machines Co., of Japan was a subsidiary company of RCA Victor Co.,
Trade marks of Victor and RCA indicated on dial.
Quality was very high but serviceability was poor.
In the end of 1938, Model R-101 was changed into horizontal shaped Model 5R-10.

The serial number of this example was 15684.
Original chassis was fear condition.
Chassis replaced from No.4661.
